soojin kim
art educator, artist

Soo Jin Kim’s art practice explores themes of spirituality and contemporary philosophy. She is interested in depicting the conscious and unconscious mind within everyday situations with a particular interest in automatism as a method of art-making in which the artist suppresses conscious control over the making process. Her works aim to tell human stories within these environments allowing the unconscious mind to have great sway. She uses her art as a way to journal her daily experiences and uses painting as a way to document these processes.

Soo Jin completed a Bachelor of Art Education at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW. She has taught Art in schools across NSW and Victoria and in various community settings outside of the traditional classroom. She is currently working as a Visual Arts teacher in Sydney where she currently resides. Soo Jin lives in leafy Beecroft with her husband, four children and their cat Sukhi.
